This is a good thing IMO. Accenture and the other body shops are a giant wealth redistribution machine. Its selfish to think that only FAANG employees should hold all the wealth. Let it trickle down to other less equal humans too.

If paying high cellular, internet & home prices is a sign of “developed” world. Yes

We pay less than Uganda, more than all of Europe. That's what's important here. Complaining correctly.

In front of the scenes: Canadians pay the highest cellular bills & internet bills.

Also in front of the scenes: the largest country with the smallest population. In the world. Giving a Canadian cell access costs 6.5x more than it does to provide ab American the same service. Why would the prices be even close?

Twitter infects Africa.

A new to the country colleague of mine in Overland Park, Kansas thought First Watch was a security service until I took him for breakfast there.

Good for iOS users. Rest of the developing world use cheap phones loaded with obsolete Androids. Facebook & Google can now leech on them.

People choosing Quebec to immigrate must be either fluent in French or stupid. Quebec immigration is perhaps one of the most arcane system and politically influenced. To compare it only takes 4 or 6 months to get a PR in rest of Canada if you have the right skills. In Quebec, even if you have the right skills and speaks French, it takes a minimum of 2 years if the red tape allows. If you do not know French with the right skills 3 to 4 years.

For some people the choice is governed by the educational institution. Sure, I could have applied to UofT but my research led me to McGill (and I’m frankly glad that happened).

Education yes. Everything else you won’t be that glad.

Shouldn’t we more worried about using toilet paper than IKEA catalog if we want to save trees ? Using a bidet is very easy and clean.

https://blog.nationalgeographic.org/2010/04/16/toilet-paper-...

It's true, and a bidet proper isn't necessarily needed.

I haven't used an actual bidet in a while, but I honestly find it hard to fathom not washing my butt after pooping now that I've started doing it.

TP is just smearing it around...

Can you explain how you wash your butt afterwards? Do you take a shower? Sit in the sink and rinse with soap?

It depends on the circumstances. I may get into the shower or I may hang my butt over the tub or sink.

The basic method is to keep washing it and rinsing it off and then washing off my hand, until I no longer feel poop or anything resembling it on my butt. Be gentle. No soap on the butt, that will dry it out. (As I mentioned in other posts, I don't use soap anywhere besides my hands.)

I then keep washing it, occasionally washing off my hand. When I can rub my butt with my hand it comes back not smelling like poop at all, I consider my butt to be clean.

If you look at animals, they do something similar, though they have to lick it clean. I consider myself very fortunate and blessed to not have to do that. :)

Afterwards, I wash my hands, get dressed, and then wash my hands again.

Thanks. Definitely food for thought!

If you are just smearing it around then I think you have both a diet and a method problem.

Here is a challenge for you:

After you're done wiping as thoroughly as you will, run your hand or another piece of toilet paper through your butt and smell it.

Here is a challenge for you, get some dog crap on your hand and spray it with a garden house then sniff your hand. Unless you are soaping and scrubbing your ass deep, it isn't going to be 100% sanitary regardless of using paper or a bidet. They are nice, but in the end it doesn't matter.

If you try the dog crap experiment and actually make a good effort with the hose and scrub it, you will find that it does not smell anymore.

I don’t think they will put up with these issues and live there like the rest of us. They are only concerned about the property value going down.

I completely agree. The very old buildings in Montreal are soundproof. But the new “optimized” condos coming up have thin concrete floors(the bare minimum code) and the common walls are also soundproofed to the bare minimum code I think STC 50 if I remember.

Concrete floors with multiple thin layers of foam embedded in the concrete end up stronger and lighter than concrete without foam, and are way better at sound insulation. The downside is it's logistically harder to arrange everything in the mould.

When someone figures out a process to do it without so much labor, it'll become standard practice, because it'll save concrete and weight.

Can’t know this by looking at it from the outside. A renter or even a buyer gets so little time to analyze what’s underneath the flooring or inside the common walls. I do not know if one can request the materials and blueprint of a condo before buying it.

Won't the foam deteriorate over time, possibly faster than the concrete ?

Yes, but it doesn't matter. The foam really acts as a spacer to convert a single block of concrete into two blocks separated by a few millimeters.

As soon as the concrete is set into place, the foam has done its job and can degrade all it likes.

Interesting! But what holds these blocks at the separation once the foam is no longer load bearing ? Some external bracing ?

Typically the foam is only in the middle of the concrete slab, so there are still a few inches of attachment all around all the edges with contact. There is rebar in those edges too.

Interesting, do that's how it works - thanks for the explanation! :)
