This change is about laying the groundwork for increased transparency for your paid compute consumption, vs. the current model of kind of hiding that away.

Yeah, I was looking on Google Colab Github page. There were some issues about "Hey! I got a Pro(+) account, and I'm keeping to be limited, but I don't know how I can check how much resources I still have" kind of messages.

I think this is one of the reasons Google is switching to this model.

By far, the biggest user complaint I get is "why can't I access a GPU" which this change will address.

I use BetterSnapTool and highly recommend it. Just set up some hotkeys and macros and you can do it all. I like to set up my hotkeys to be able to maximize for the whole screen, go to either vertical side, go to either horizontal side, or all 4 corners of my screen.
