>single natural ingredient

Unfortunately, it’s barely natural and there’s definitely more than one ingredient int he patty at McDonald…

I agree beyond is ultra processed. I disagree on the fact that it’s worse than most patty. Sure you have 100% organic beef patty, but in most burger places I got to, beyond still sounds like like the better choice, from a health point of view.

And let’s not forget the quantity of meat we consume, it’s too much anyway, yet another reason why a batons burger is probably better.

And finally, environmentally, also better than classic burger.

But it is true one could take a salad at McDonalds, that would be even better.

100% that. So frustrating. Their lifespan is artificially short because of this.

It’s already there on the MacBook Pro lineup: Wouldn’t the MicroSDXC card slot qualify as storage expansion?

I actually do have that but it failed 2-3 years in. Usbc ones are a bit more reliable as far as i understand.

I’m not following: which OS is installed on it? Doesn’t it also publish updates?

Honest question: are there serious studies about the link of Covid with the current dying (for lack of a better word) of democracy in the US? I would be very interested. I suspect there is a link – but I’m really not an expert on the subject matter.

Thank you for this. The poor always vote against themselves I have the impression. Far right plan to hand over the country to megacorps et remove all social nets in Germany. Guess who votes for them more than other social categories? The one that would be most impacted by this. It’s insane.

At the same time, it’s a testament to the weakness of other parties that they can’t even articulate that sufficiently well.

I agree that the TPUs are one of the things that are underestimated (based on my personal reading of HN).

Google already has a huge competitive advantage because they have more data than anyone else, bundle Gemini in each android to siphon even more data, and the android platform. The TPUs truly make me believe there actually could be a sort of monopoly on LLMs in the end, even though there are so many good models with open weights, so little (technical) reasons to create software that only integrates with Gemini, etc.

Google will have a lion‘s share of inferring I believe. OpenAI and Claude will have a very hard time fighting this.

I think windows has historical monopoly.

They bundled it with PC hw and the vast majority of apps only ever got published for windows, and this over decades (one would argue it’s still true).

The starting point for LLMs is very different. Who would publish today a software that only integrates with chatGPT? Only a small minority.

Thus I agree, I struggle to see how a monopoly can exist here. A GPU monopoly or duopoly though, perhaps.

> On hacker news, a very tech literate place, I see people thinking modern AI models can’t generate working code.

I am completely flooded with comments and stories about how great LLMs are at coding. I am curious to see how you get a different picture than this? Can you point me to a thread or a story that supports your view? At the moment, individuals thinking AI cannot generate working code seem almost inexistent to me.

It's a real thing, but usually tied to IT folks that tried ChatGPT ~2 years ago (in a web browser) and had to "fix" whatever it output. That situation solidified their "understanding of AI" and they haven't updated their knowledge on the current situation (because... No pressing need).

Folks like this have never used AI inside of an IDE or one of the CLI AI tools. Without that perspective, AI seems mostly like a gimmick.

Fully agree, it’s akin to atheists, they very often are convinced they are not religious. Agnostics are the unreligious ones. In fact, atheists are the most fanatical zealots in my friends circle.
