That's a blunt way of saying it, but I agree with the sentiment.
Which is a shame, because this is a project that could have had potential, but a poor name goes a long way towards discouraging it being taken seriously.
I get it. This is a scam. The discussion is not about what you think it is. (EDIT: Or not, I don't care.)
BUT the fact that we are even arguing about whether or not we should be putting data centers into space is so incredibly absurd to someone who watched the Challenger explode and assumed that space wouldn't be ventured into again in my lifetime.
People don't realize how much the priors have changed. Take a minute to appreciate that. We are living in a world where people are debating if it makes sense to spend a bazillion dollars to put a hard disk into orbit.
I wonder if the Klingons are good at cyber warfare.
I have never driven a Tesla, so this is all anecdotal.
Some of my (extended) neighbors are members of a family that live near each other. One sister bought a Tesla. The brother who lived down the block laughed at her because politics. Despite that, within a year he had bought one as well. Their parents test drove it a few times and were critical about how it drove weird. But now, after about 9 months, their father mentioned in passing that he ordered one. Another brother mentioned that he would sell his Maxus for a Tesla if he could afford to.
Until recently, one had a Chevy, one a Hyundai, one a Maxus and one an ancient Subaru.
I have never seen such buy-in with any other brand, and that is despite the toxicity of the Tesla CEO. I wouldn't be so quick to write them off.
While this is nice, it is not inherently related to an A4 paper.
You could have memorized the length of a cheapo Bic pen if that is common in your area; Or a Parker or a Monte-Blanc if you carry one of those.
All recent iPhones (regular models since `03) have a width of 71.5mm. Remember that, and as long as someone near you has an iPhone, you are good to go using it as a ruler. (And people will definitely be, um, impressed).
We have in my kitchen several brands of small forks, all are 19.2mm (just checked. The large forks have a range of sizes). Next time I need to measure something I could just request a fork...
In Win 11 Home, and want to add a local account and not change it to a Windows account, and not share my stuff with MS. No Cloud or "Backups", thank you.
The option to enable a local account was through the command line only. The dark patterns and persausion to convince me not to was off putting.
But every time I boot in to have to go through the nag screen is off the wall.
It is truly crazy how much I understand the dedication people have to avoid using a unfamiliar system.
Seeing insane investments (in time/effort/knowledge/frustration) like this make me enjoy HN!!
(And there is always the hope that someone at AMD will see this and actually pay you to develop the thing.. Who knows)
