My maths isn't good enough for this yet, but I did wonder why there wasn't a popular SETIcoin


Hashing needs to be asymmetric-- expensive to produce a hash that fits the criteria but very cheap to validate that the hash fits the criteria.

This is why attempts to make scientific computation into a proof of work have been difficult-- often the validation cost is equal to the work itself.
