Very well put. It seems to me that desktop performance has stagnated for the most part while mobile performance continues to make leaps and bounds, so people think they need to upgrade their phones and tablets much more often just like the early days of the PC. A 2008 MacBook is going to be a lot more useful than a 2008 iPhone in 2018.

Apple certainly markets their iPads as a competitor to the MacBook, so maybe they’re not looking to use custom silicon in the Macs but simply to phase out desktop computers when iOS and third party applications are ready to replace PCs for the most part.
