Ag was a nature reliant optimal process. Free sunlight, water and manure. Good reliable germ lines.
Population exploded and we discovered fossil fuels. Ag scape and scale changed.
We should have kept the system intact. We should go back to renewable sustainable ag. Yes, it’s labour intensive and no, no one wants to farm anymore.
Solution:
1. Automation for big and small acreages. Not AI fetish to sell more shit to farmers but to eliminate labour. Not labour costs but labour. We need more ag bots of all sizes.
2. Soil health. We should grow healthy soil. If we grow good soil, we can grow any food. Ag industry has forgotten this.
3. Water shed protections. We should stop poisoning our waters. Water is life.
4. Habitat conservation. We are super apex predators. We can’t synthesize our food and so must rely upon habitat and others below us in the food chain to make this food for us. When bees and frogs and even mosquitoes disappear, then it’s an indication of imbalance in the ecosphere. No ecology, no earth.
5. Short supply chains and local food security. It’s gone out of control. Container ships criss crossing the world’s oceans have jumped the shark.
Ag is not farming. Ag is a multi billion dollar industry. Farming is about feeding people. Ag has eaten farming. Now we have to smell the farts. Let’s hope we survive this century.
