I have like 10 photos that are special to me physically printed out.

People are such hoarders when it comes to family photos and videos. You are never going to look at 99% of those photos and videos.



It is true that for my wife and I, when we first had kids, we took a lot of photos and video. Too much. I sometimes think that we missed out on a lot of events in all the event-saving.

But when my folks passed away, my sibs and I very much enjoyed the old photos and movies, with people that had not been around for decades sometimes.


Wait until you have kids...


How do you store 750gb of photo and video?

We do look at them ever so often, and it’s great.

It’s also disturbing to see corruption in some of the first videos we took. I don’t know the source but some videos have weird artefacts now.


NAS appliance with RAID 5 over 4x large disks.

From what I've read, a ZFS filesystem is very good at detecting and correcting file corruption. Next upgrade I'll be looking at a new NAS appliance that has native ZFS support.

I'm currently storing around 400GB.
