That's the difference between builing a shed and building a skyscraper.

And most developers don't understand that sometimes you want to build a shed. In that case, applying the skyscraper building conventions is overkill.

Of course building a skyscraper like a shed will never get you past the 4rth floor without the whole thing collapsing on you.

Also, at the end of a finite project, you can take some shortcuts to get things finished.

Of course, which is why applying grandiose judgements to the people who just choose to build sheds, is misguided in the extreme.


Yes indeed, I fully agree.

I once insulted an employer with this expression :).

I told them that in the past we were building sheds, and that it all went very well. But now there was a skyskraper project, and that they cannot expect us to build that in the same way. I wanted to make clear that this bigger project needed more structure to support it.

All they heard was "what??? You think we build sheds???" :D.

Nothing wrong with building sheds of course. In fact those are the most fun projects.
