So destroying evidence saved them hundreds of millions in fines and cost them nothing.
That sends a pretty clear message. The legal system in this country is a sick joke.
Here at crapcorp we encourage employees to always "do the right thing" for the company. That means anything that increases company profit - as long as we don't get caught.
I still find the whole profit-first / shareholder value to be very weird.
Like companies have to define their purpose to get a corporate charter. Rarely is that charter "to make as much money as possible". So if people invest into your company it should be because they support your purpose! So then focus on your purpose! If somebody sues you for not focusing on profit it seems like an easy win lawsuit, I said I was going to do X, I tried to do X, and you're sueing me for not doing Y which I never said I'd do.
