> ever since the "iOS-ify everything" zeitgeist took root

That started in 2010, a bit more than 5-10 years.

IMHO it started with iOS 7 [1] - year 2013.

Uber flat, you don't know what's a button, what's a text. I dunno if I just adjusted to it or it actually somewhat got better up to iOS/macOS 15. Though with iOS/macOS 26 - it's iOS 7 moment yet again.

NB: not sure about Liquid Glass - though I was recently (and weirdly) recommended to watch iOS 7 trailer on youtube[2]. Comments are overwhelmingly positive. Dunno if it's just people who were kids/teens looking through rose tinted glasses. Though I am not sure anymore, maybe people actually like such designs and it's just HN bubble complaining (IMHO complains here are 110% valid) about nothing. Maybe in 10+ years ordinary guy will praise iOS/macOS 26.

How dare you remind me how old I am ;)

> And twitter hasn't launched one single meaningful anything since.

Longer tweets? Analytics? Premium? Grok? AI autogenerated news summaries? Livestreaming? I honestly have a harder time trying to think of features launched between 2011 and 2022, besides spaces.

lol there’s no way you’re this delusional

Cry more.

If you can use a criteria to finance academia [1] you can use the reverse to define what DEI is. Every major corporation had DEI departments and yet it doesn't exist, it's a ghost.

I really hope the backlash to this bullshit finally reaches europe.

Same song and dance for 14 years straight, there is no SJW you're just imagining them, it's just called being a decent human being, they say as they kick me repeatedly in the face.

It used to be that annoying noobs were aggressively told to RTFM, their feelings got hurt and they would go away. That probably was too harsh. But then came corporate OSS and with it corporate HR in OSS. Being the BOFH was now bad, gatekeeping was bad. Now everyone feels entitled to the maintainer time and maintainers burn out.

It's a trade off, we made it collectively.

Why does this say it's been posted 8 hours ago but on hn.algolia.com is archived 2 days ago, also I'm sure I already saw it yesterday.

This is a regular HN feature where admins resurrect old posts that did not get the attention they maybe deserved.

... and the resurrection falsly associates the timestamp of the admin's action with the originator's posting. Needs attention.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional because the timestamp used to calculate where the article shows up on the front page.

My greater faith in the integrity of the admins tells me they do not intend this false association. Its a misrep that can seriously mislead.

They intend it. It was explained by dang at some point

I will look out for that.

If they didn't say it they heavily implied it to the point that journalists were fooled. For example you can read about it in this very quaint 2018 article that went with a woke "it's your fault I'm disfunctionally paranoid" angle: https://www.cnet.com/culture/amazon-go-avoid-discrimination-....

No one cared what I was doing. Is this what it feels like to shop when you're not black?
Turns out people did care what she was doing.

Nothing has been "proven". The original story was The Information (paywalled article) reshared by Business Insider [1] and claimed that 70% of the transactions were reviewed by an indian. The source was an anonymous source.

Business Insider also reached out to Amazon at the time and a spokesperson denied that actually reviewed any transactions.

This "proven false" thing is just another anonymous source claiming that actually it was only 20%.

So you actually have no proof of anything, you just have three persons claiming three different things (0%, 20% and 70%).

Declining industrially and demographically, no innovation, soaring energy prices, and our share of the world economy has shrunk for ten years straight and is projected to continue shrinking in the future. By all metrics us europeans are losers.
